About
This performance is presented as part of the Open Studio Parbleux showcase.
"SLAB" is the second, in what will be a series of three works responding to an acute traumatic loss. With tenderness, a single performer and a single table engage in a partnership of deep listening as they develop a rolling, sensual, and hypnotic lamentation, echoing the wavelike undulations that mark the grieving process.
Reminiscent at times, of 19th century acts of ectoplasmic magic and mediumship, and at others of archetypal mourning rituals, "SLAB" moves in the shadows, traversing the murky corners of the underworld, it crosses the River Styx…evoking ghosts, straddling the veil between the worlds.
Set to a rich sonic environment of cello and found sounds, "SLAB" is a lament, an invocation, and a goodbye.
