Living, loving, creating in the shadow of a giant: such was the fate of many brilliant women at the turn of the last century. Camille Claudel, recognized as one of the greatest French sculptors, was never able to make a living from her work and was condemned to shine in the light of Rodin.
Mezzo-soprano Stéphanie Pothier and the Molinari Quartet present an innovative concert featuring music by Claude Debussy, Germain Tailleferre and Jake Heggie, inspired by the life and work of French sculptor Camille Claudel and female artists of turn of the 20th century (Marval, Valadon, Laurencin, Modersohn-Becker, Goncharova, Hébuterne, Exter).
This very accessible 20th- and 21st-century music program is enhanced by a stunning video setting. This chamber music concert experience, described by some as an “exhibition concert” is thus enhanced by a coherent, poetic and powerful visual dimension.
